The Lake Calhoun Conservation Area is a migratory waterfowl protection area, and protected wetlands. The conservation area is about two hundred and twenty five acres of water, wetlands, and timber. No hunting is allowed on lake property, however a small number of bow permits are issued each year to keep our deer population in check. Use of lake property is restricted to members and invited guests only unless otherwise noted.
Lake Calhoun - The lake once used for boating and fishing has gradually filled in with sediment and now has an average depth of only two or three feet. This allows for a lush growth of water plants that attracts thousands of migrating geese each year.
Finch Creek Wetlands - The main feeder creek to the lake is a wide shallow creek with numerous varieties of wetlands plants. Bird watching is at its best with Blue Herons, ducks and other birds frequenting this area.
Lakeside Park - Directly east of the lake this heavily wooded area is a great place to picnic and watch the wildlife. The park has an all weather pavillion, and playground for the kids.
2nd Hill Campground - A thirty unit family campground with water and electric hookups. The campground has two shower houses, and an all weather pavillion. It is open to members from the first of April until the last of October. The campground is open to the general public from the middle of June until the end of August, by reservation, space available only.
Calhoun Lodge - Our rustic lodge is available for daily rental to members and the general public. A deposit and Reservations are required. A great place for a reception, party or family get together.
